Chansonetta’s Children – Work, Play, Learn, Grow: Selected Photographs by Chansonetta Stanley Emmons
through October 30
Chansonetta’s Children – Work, Play, Learn, Grow is devoted to the thematic camera work of Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (1858-1937) related to Childhood, Adolescence, and Coming of Age. Few, if any, of these evocative images taken between 1898 and 1928 received widespread attention during her lifetime but convey a recurring theme in her work. This new exhibit brings together many of Chansonetta’s photographs, portraits and street scenes, taken of youngsters in rural Maine and New England, the Carolinas, and during her sole trip overseas. This thirty-year overview of Chansonetta’s childhood photography, assembled in a single exhibit, provides a fresh perspective on Chansonetta’s Children.
